Welcome to Cleveland College Preparatory School, home of the Sabers! We are a learning community which values high expectations for both academics and behavior. Our staff embraces students, families & community to develop well-rounded, independent critical thinkers who are intrinsically motivated to be life-long learners. Since opening our doors in 2010, we have served the Slavic Village & surrounding communities by providing a quality education for all students in a safe, secure & nurturing learning environment.
We currently serve approximately 285 students in grades K-8. We are staffed with 17 certified teachers and 6 classified support staff. In addition to core academic subjects, students have the benefit of weekly Art & PE classes. Special services available to students include special education, literacy support, and counseling. Our school hours are M-F 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
We encourage all parents/guardians to maintain regular communications with their child’s teachers and be actively involved in the school community. Antonio Gaines, Principal
Mr. Gaines joined Cleveland College Preparatory School in 2013 and served as Dean of Scholars before being promoted to Principal in 2020. Prior to ACCEL Schools, Mr. Gaines worked as a charter & public school educator and administrator for ICAN Schools and Lorain City Schools. He additionally worked with inner-city youth as a Youth Mentor & Mental Health Specialist for Beech Brook. Mr. Gaines holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Tiffin University and a Master’s degree in Special Education from Notre Dame College.

Phillip Penn, Executive Principal
Phillip Penn joined ACCEL Schools in 2017 as a school principal with over 12 years of experience as a K-8 educator and administrator. As Executive Principal at ACCEL Schools, he oversees leadership development, instructional programming, operations, and strategic planning for two schools in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to joining ACCEL Schools, Mr. Penn served in teaching and leadership roles in public and charter schools including ICAN Schools, Cleveland Metropolitan School District, and Warrensville City Schools. Mr. Penn is passionate about urban education and working in inner city schools, especially his hometown of Cleveland. Educational equity is a top motivation and priority in his work, and he prides himself in communication and developing supportive relationships. Mr. Penn holds a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership as well as a Master’s degree in Education from Cleveland State University.
